Hype Beasts

I'm a stranger to you by now, which is my fault, but I'm always trying to think something up that is relevant to this industry/lifestyle/whatever it is that "streetwear" and therefore LäWhy stands for.

As a young'n, the boob tube cast a huge spell on me, especially in the morning before school. Growing up in the late 80's/early 90's, four gnarly, green SOBs were my, and many others', favorite cartoon heroes. That's right, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were an embodiment of hotness during that time (Mikey's dudely surfer lingo, pizza up the yin-yang, skateboarding, an extensive toy line my parents despised buying me, etc.)

What I've noticed though, as I've gotten older and involved in clothing marketing and *ugh* streetwear *ugh* , is that the villains were pretty awesome themselves. Take Shred-heads two hench-morons, Bebop and Rocksteady, They had an ill steez, reflective of the whole punk/rebellious look of the 80's that many of these outrageous "hypebeast" fashionista dudes currently are channeling and mixing with the hip-hop swagger of 2008. It's cool and all, but these fools look like clowns, wearing the most ridiculous of colors and pieces just because of its "limited edition" status and supposed prestige since the next guy ain't up on it yet.

This next graphic I'm working on will take these two pictured here and make a tribute/mockery of these modern-day buffoons. Stay tuned, I'm really sure you'll be as stoked as I am.
